About the Event
On December 21 at 9:58 am, Winter officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere. And yet, it seems like the Christmas songs have been on repeat in the grocery store since September. "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" we hear Frank Sinatra croon. The expectation is that all is joy and wonder. But the reality can be more complex. It's near the close of a calendar year, and those we miss can weigh heavily in our hearts and minds and memories. And it is good to acknowledge that, and share the complexity of this season with others. That's why many communities of faith offer an alternative service, sometimes referred to as "Blue Christmas" services. Come join us on the Winter solstice, the longest night of the year, for a peaceful service of remembrance and community. This service is for those for whom the Christmas season may be challenging-- or who would just like a more low-key way to start the week of the observation of Christ's birth. Come light a candle, say a prayer, and know that you are not alone.
