St. Martin’s Episcopal Church

The Search Committee would like to take a moment and thank the congregation for their support and prayer. The candidates in this process have been exceptional.

During the October 7th meeting, the candidate list was narrowed to a group that will be visited by Search Committee members at their churches. Our small group of  Search Committee members will attend a service, conduct a personal interview, and take the candidate out for dinner.

We pray for guidance during this pivotal stage. Upon completion of home visits the search committee will meet to share their impressions and a final list will be presented to the vestry.

The Search Committee has gained momentum with the review of Church Deployment Office (CDO) profiles for new candidates that have been prescreened by the Rev. Dan Smith, Canon to the Ordinary. Initial impressions are very positive.

While the committee continues to receive new CDO profiles, four candidates have now been moved forward for more careful consideration. These candidates will receive a package on St. Martin’s and telephone interviews will be scheduled.

The Rev. Dan Smith, Canon to the Ordinary and the diocesan overseer of our search process, has identified four new potential candidates for Rector. He is in active conversation with the priests about St. Martin’s. He also has appointments with others next week at General Convention. The Search Committee co-chairs, Erv Heyde and Jack Hanley, continue their close contact with The Rev. Dan Smith, Diocesan Canon to the Ordinary. Dan is in the process of identifying a list of pre-screened candidates which is expected to be delivered next week. Additional advertising opportunities are being reviewed to attract potential applicants.

Search Committee Co-Chairs, Erv Heyde and Jack Hanley met this week with Dan Smith, Diocesan Canon to the Ordinary, to discuss expediting the rector search process. Dan will be playing an active role in assisting the Search Committee to identify and pre-screen a new slate of  potential candidates.

We expect to call our next rector with 4 to 5 months.

Teams of Search Committee members are making final plans to do home visits with the four remaining candidates for Rector. Each team will attend a worship service, conduct a formal interview, share a meal with the candidate, and talk with selected parishioners.

The next step in the search process will be to bring the final candidates to St. Louis.
