St. Martin’s Episcopal Church marked the Sunday of the Passion on April 1 with two worship services, a special Sunday school class for kids and an all-parish Palm Sunday Brunch.
Members processed into worship services with the Liturgy of the Palms. Each service (8 and 10:15 a.m.) was highlighted by members reading the Passion of our Lord (Mark 14-15).
During our Christian Formation hour, member and art teacher Mary Drastal taught kids in 4th grade through high school about the Anglican Rosary and helped them create their own special prayer tool.
The morning was capped off with a delicious brunch, cooked and served by St. Martin’s Men’s Group.

Enjoy a fun night of games and support upcoming mission trips at St. Martin’s Trivia Night Friday, April 13.
St. Martin’s Youth Ministries is sponsoring this year’s event, which includes 10 rounds of trivia questions, a 50-50 raffle, a silent auction plus lots of fun side games.
Decorate your table with a “holiday” theme to add to the fun. The best decorations will win a special prize.
Doors open at 6 p.m. The games begin at 7. Because this is a youth-sponsored event, alcohol will not be allowed. But don’t worry — we’re planning lots of special surprises to keep the evening fun!
Tickets are $20 per person or $160 for a table of 8 (includes soda and light snacks). Proceeds from this event will go to tornado relief work in Joplin and to our companion diocese of Lui in South Sudan, Africa.
You can purchase tickets on Sunday mornings at St. Martin’s. Or if you’d like to reserve a space or a table, please fill out the reply form below. Include your name and how many spaces or tables you would like to reserve (8 seats per table). Be sure to include your e-mail and/or phone number so we can confirm the reservation and collect the payment.
Put on your thinking caps, be a part of the fun and help us raise money for two great causes. See you at Trivia Night!
For more information or if you would like to sponsor or donate to our event, please contact Heidi Gioia, Director of Youth Ministries.
Sunday school offers a wonderful opportunity for children to explore and express their developing faith. One of the joyous ways they learn is through music.
The fourth Sunday of each month is Music Sunday. Our youngest elementary students (pre-K through 3rd grade) meet in their classrooms at 9 a.m. to learn a special song and then sing for the congregation during the 10:15 service that same day.
Our next Music Sunday is March 25. If you have young children, you’re invited to bring them to participate in this fun event. If you don’t have young children, you’re invited to come and enjoy the sweet sounds of our youngest choir!

Students competed for prizes (and bragging rights) at St. Martin’s Bible Jeopardy during our Christian Formation hour Sunday, March 11.
Students in 4th grade through high school worked with their teams to answer Bible trivia questions. Everyone did a great job showing off their Bible knowledge. Congratulations to Shannon, Thomas, Abby, Brian and Kaine for being named Jeopardy champions.
This friendly competition was the result of a Sunday school teacher meeting in January. “We were brainstorming ways to both increase attendance and provide a way to learn more about the Bible,” said Youth Ministries Director Heidi Gioia. “Hosting a Bible Jeopardy seemed the perfect method!”
Over the course of four Sundays leading up to the event, the students studied a variety of topics from the Bible in their Sunday school classes. Thanks to all the teachers (Mike & Teresa Reeves, Bill & Carrie Wilkins, Kevin Clark, Jill Gould, Kay Fletcher, Stewart Wiles and Heidi Gioia) for working so well with their students. Thanks to the kids and their parents for doing extra studying at home.
Jeopardy wouldn’t be complete without an “Alex Trebbeck,” so we recruited Rich Luebcke to be our game show host. Kevin Clark took the lead on procuring an awesome Jeopardy game set with real buzzers and a board. Bill Wilkins and Stewart Wiles developed the categories and many of the questions. Jill Gould provided her graphics skills and her printer for the flyers.
Thanks to the generous donations of parishioners, we were able to offer $50 Target gift cards to all the members of the winning team. Thanks to Carrie Wilkins for soliciting other donations from local businesses for prizes.
This event is sure to become an annual tradition!
