St. Martin’s Episcopal Church
Vestry Meeting
At Marianist Center
February 23, 2008

Present: Ed Hamm, Jeanne King, Bob Elsperman, Bob Buehler, Linda Bennett, Phyllis Duff, Jack Hauser, The Rev. Susan Crawford, The Rev. Susie Skinner, Greg Marx

Opening Prayer was led by The Rev. Susie Skinner.

Old Business: The minutes from the January Vestry meeting were read with corrections. Bob Elsperman made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected; Linda Bennett seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: The 2006 financial audit bill, which was received in January of 2008, was paid. The designated donation transfers took place in January. The deficit is $4800 without additional pledges. We paid the diocesan pledge in January and February. Bob Elsperman made a motion to approve the financial report; Linda Bennett seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Standing Committees:

Outreach - Bob Buehler presented an opportunity for St. Martin’s to have a rallying point. The objective would be to raise money for the Diocese of Lui and to create awareness of Lui. The goal is to raise money to dig wells for Lui at a cost of $17,000. The plan is to have a “Walk-a-Thon for Lui”. Mike Kinman will speak at St. Martin’s about Lui and the Millennium Development Goals. Bob Buehler is requesting approval of the Vestry for a “Walk-a-Thon”. May 10th is the target date. This would be “budget neutral” for St. Martin’s. Water is the number 7 goal of the MDG. Jack Hauser made a motion for the Walk-a-Thon to be approved. Greg Marx seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Facilities: Bob Elsperman has a proposal from Lighting Services, Inc. to reconnect the power outside. Some of the lines are broken. They may need to bore holes under the driveway to repair. Greg Marx made a motion to approve the outside lighting work. Bob Buehler seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Evangelism: They have had one meeting. Some will attend the Magnetic Church Conference next week at St. Martin’s. They are considering a new pictorial directory for St. Martin’s.

Parish Life: Phyllis reported that the Men’s Group will hold a Palm Sunday Brunch. The Hospitality Committee will help with the Brunch. Susan will meet with the Young Mom’s Club. Trivia Night will be held tonight at St. Martin’s.

New Business: A Connecting with History Forum was held last week in Park Hall. There is a chart on the wall of St. Martin’s history. This will stay up until Easter.

Cottage Meetings: Susan will schedule the meetings to be held with eight to ten members attending each group. At least one Vestry member should be in each meeting. We are trying to get an image of what the parish is. We will have another Parish Life meeting by the end of May.

Lower Level Space: We need a task force to look into opportunities for the space in the Lower Level. The Sr. Warden and the Bob Elsperman, from Facilities, will meet to begin discussions.

Diocesan Convention Delegates: The names submitted to the diocese were Rich Brown and Bob Huheey. Kurt Greenbaum will be an alternate. During next year’s annual meeting we should elect three delegates.

Calendar: The Holy Week is very busy. The staff is very busy with Janet being out from her surgery. The Outreach is looking into E-Scripts.

Jack Hauser made a motion to adjourn and Ed Hamm seconded the motion.

Next Vestry meeting will be held on March 31st.

Respectfully submitted,
Deb Aylsworth
Vestry Clerk
