St. Martin’s Episcopal Church
Vestry Meeting
January 28, 2008
Present: John Lange, Rich Luebcke, Linda Bennett, Bob Buehler, Jeanne King, Ed Hamm, Phyllis Duff, Emily Ware, The Rev. Susie Skinner, The Rev. Susan Crawford, Mike Luebbers, Tom Warrington, Jack Hauser, and Deb Aylsworth from the Vestry. There were several guests attending to discuss Christian Formation.
The Rev. Susan Crawford opened the meeting with a prayer.
Christian Formation: Tim and Emily Ware met with Terri before she left to discuss the various Christian Formation programs. Children’s Formation - Heidi Gioia has stepped down as chair of the Children’s Ministries Committee and we need a replacement. Emily is forming the Youth Ministries committee. The Nursery is coordinated by Kim Montgomery. Susan and Susie will be taking over Confirmation which begins Sunday. There are point people for all of the Youth Groups at this time. The Christian Formation curriculum and goals will continue as planned for the Epiphany semester even with the departure of the Christian Formation director. There is a February 10th meeting planned with the Sunday school teachers. If needed, we will also have a dialogue with the parents. The guests attending the meeting are concerned about the future of Christian Education with Terri leaving. Susan will be looking at all the possible options for staff formation. Christian formation is a large priority for St. Martin’s. The budget will be a factor for the program.
Old Business: Linda Bennett made a motion to approve the December Vestry Minutes. John Lange seconded the motion. All voted in favor of approval.
Treasurer’s Report: There are no new additional pledges. It is too expensive to mail the remaining pledge boxes. We should make a note on the next pledge campaign whether the member would like boxes or not. We will move the boxes from the front of the church.
Facilities - Lighting: The lighting company will be back to work on the outside of the building. A water leak was repaired. Tom Warrington has spent many hours in the church working on the facilities.
Outreach Committee: The Committee is trying to select four campaigns for the church rather than several. They will strategize with Youth Groups for combined efforts in lieu of the grocery certificates. Dana Griggs is checking on grocery certificate e-scripts.
New Business: There will be several cottage meetings in the next couple months. Each meeting will have an agenda to gather information such as “Who are we”, etc. Susan or Jane Klieve will coordinate each meeting.
Junior Warden: Bob Buehler has accepted the Senior Warden position. John Lange nominated Emily Ware, Emily nominated John Lange and Bob Buehler nominated Bob Elsperman. Jeanne King made a motion to close the nominations. Emily seconded the motion. The job entails helping the Vestry and the Senior Warden. There is much time involved. A secret ballot was used to vote Emily Ware as Junior Warden.
Standing Committee Assignments: Each vestry member submitted to Susan a request for their committee of choice.
There is a Vestry Retreat on February 22 and 23rd. The February Vestry meeting will be held during the retreat.
The Vestry meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last 1 ½ hours to be held on the fourth Monday of each month.
There is a Magnetic Church Workshop scheduled for Feb 29th and March 1st at St. Martin’s. The Evangelism Committee will attend at a $35.00 cost.
Susie led Compline in the Chapel.
Respectfully submitted,
Deb Aylsworth
Vestry Clerk
